Henrico County:

Henrico Health District will be conducting an H1N1 vaccination clinic at Richmond International Raceway on Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 2:30 - 7:30 PM.

This clinic is primarily targeted towards immunizing children, however, we are happy to immunize anyone in the priority groups listed above. This clinic will be by Reservation Only.

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, all 1000 slots were filled.

However, Henrico has announced that additional doses of the flu shot have been made available for 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. The doses are reserved for children under 4 years of age. There are still doses of the H1N1 nasal spray available.

Chesterfield County:

The Chesterfield Health District will hold a free H1N1 flu vaccination clinic on Thursday, Nov. 12, 3-7 p.m., at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, 10300 Courthouse Road.

The clinic will provide an opportunity to vaccinate those persons in the priority groups identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Those groups include children and adults aged 6 months to 24 years; pregnant women; adults aged 25-64 years with certain health conditions; individuals who live with or care for infants aged less than 6 months; health care workers and emergency medical services providers.

The available vaccine at the clinic will be nasal mist with a limited number of injectable vaccine. Healthy indivduals aged 2-49 years, who are not pregnant, are eligible for the nasal mist vaccine.

The fairgrounds parking lot will open at 12:30 p.m.

For more information call the flu information line at 768-7499.

Richmond:

On Wednesday, November 11, the Richmond City Health District is conducting a special vaccination clinic at the Richmond Public Health Clinic to offer the nasal spray form (only) of H1N1 vaccine to priority group persons who are able to take H1N1 vaccine nasal mist.

The clinic will operate from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm to provide nasal spray doses of H1N1 vaccine to persons who are approved to receive this form of vaccine.

Live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) nasal spray is generally approved for healthy people from 2 through 49 years of age who are not pregnant and do not have certain health conditions that put them at risk.

It is also recommended for persons from 25 to 49 years of age that live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age, and for healthcare and emergency medical personnel.

LAIV nasal spray vaccine is not recommended for people with severe egg allergy, anyone with a weakened immune system, persons with chronic health problems such as heart disease, asthma, diabetes, and kidney or liver disease.

Your healthcare provider can help you determine if the nasal spray vaccine is right for you. Health Department personnel will also screen persons seeking vaccination.

Additional information on H1N1 vaccination is available on the Virginia Department of Health website at www.vdh.virginia.gov and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at www.cdc.gov/flu.
